My experience:
I moved into a new development just a few minutes away from my previous house. I had no idea that within the same zip code some residents have high speed internet coverage while other houses don't. My new house had no cable or DSL service available.
I kept getting messages from my cable company telling me that high speed internet was "COMING SOON", so I got a cheap dial-up service to use temporarily. If you use dial-up you know how frustratingly SLOW it is and that you actually use your computer less because it's such a waste of time.
A few things I hate about dial-up:
- WAITING to connect
- WAITING for pages to load
- WAITING to use my phone because dial-up tied up my phone line
When we ordered satellite TV service I found out SATELLITE INTERNET was also available. It works the same way as satellite TV (through a dish installed on the roof) and offers high speed internet to rural areas or in my case, neighborhoods neglected by the cable companies.
I got service from HughesNet and it's seriously about 50 times faster than my dial-up connection. It's not quite as fast as DSL or Cable internet, but it's available in every home - no areas excluded.
A few things I love about satellite internet:
- NO WAITING! No logging on, no slow connections
- IT DOESN'T TIE UP MY PHONE
- I'M NOT STUCK WITH DIAL-UP!! (So I actually USE my internet)
Expect to pay more with satellite internet than you do for dial-up ($60-70/mo.), but the faster speed is SO worth it.
I ordered my service through USSatellite.com because they gave me a free $100 Home Depot gift card with my order.
